A solar panel comprises many cells created by a layer of semiconducting materials such as silicon. When sunlight shines on the materials it generates a flow of electricity. Solar panels do not need direct sunlight to work but the more sunlight they are exposed to the more electricity is generated.

The duration of a solar roofing installation depends on various factors, such as the size of the system and the complexity of the roof. A typical installation can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Here at Schoenherr Solar we offer FREE inspections, so we can provide you with a more accurate timeline based on your specific project

Yes, solar panels can still generate electricity on cloudy days, although their output will be reduced compared to sunny days. Solar panels primarily rely on sunlight, not necessarily direct sunlight, to produce electricity. Cloudy conditions diffuse sunlight, causing the intensity of sunlight to decrease, but solar panels can still convert this diffused sunlight into usable electricity.

When installed correctly, solar panels should not damage your roof. In fact, they can provide additional protection by shielding the roof from direct exposure to the elements. Professional solar roofing companies use appropriate mounting systems and ensure proper sealing to maintain the integrity of your roof.

Solar roofing systems generally require minimal maintenance. Regular inspections, usually once or twice a year, are recommended to ensure optimal performance. These inspections involve checking for debris accumulation, monitoring the inverter, and verifying the overall system functionality. Cleaning the panels may be necessary in areas with heavy dust or dirt accumulation.

When selecting a solar roofing company, consider the following factors:

Experience and reputation: Look for a company with a proven track record in solar installations and positive customer reviews.

Certifications and licenses: Ensure the company has the appropriate certifications and licenses required for solar installations in your area.

Customized solutions: Seek a company that can design a solar roofing system tailored to your specific needs and roof

The average cost of installing solar panels varies depending on several factors, including how large the system is, the location, and state incentives. However, the cost of a 6 kW solar panel system in the United States is between $20,000 to $30,000 not including tax credits and incentives. It is important to note that the cost of solar panels has been decreasing over the years, making it more affordable for homeowners to invest in solar energy.

The lifespan of a solar panel is well over 25 years, although there is often a slight reduction in energy production each year due to the degradation of the panels.

By using solar energy you can significantly reduce your monthly electricity bills, depending on your energy usage and the size of your solar panel system. Medium and long-term savings can be significant ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of dollars depending on the size of the solar energy system.

1. Site Visit: A solar installer will visit your home or business to evaluate your property and determine the best location for your solar panels.
2. Design and Engineering: Once the site visit is complete, the installer will prepare a design and engineering plan for your solar panel system.
3. Permits and Approvals: The installer will obtain the necessary permits and approvals from your local government before the installation can begin.
4. Installation: The solar panels will be installed on your roof or mounted on the ground, and the electrical wiring will be connected to your home or business.
5. Inspection: After installation, an inspector will visit to ensure that your solar panel system meets local safety and building codes.
6. Activation: Once your solar panel system passes inspection, it will be activated and you can start generating your own clean, renewable energy.

Solar panels generally require very little maintenance. However, it is important to keep them clean and free of debris to ensure maximum efficiency. It is recommended to clean them once every year or two, depending on the weather conditions and the location of the panels.

Solar panels that have a battery backup system installed will work during a power outage. It is important to size the battery backup system correctly for your energy consumption requirements. This requires a knowledgeable technician and/or electrician and a detailed survey of your current energy consumption.

Yes, various incentives and rebates are available for installing solar panels, both at the Federal and State levels. Currently, the Federal Government offers a 30% tax credit for the overall cost of the solar system.

This has to be determined on a case-by-case basis through a detailed energy production report and depends on available roof space and orientation as well as shading. If all conditions are adequate, the solar panels are able to power the entire home.

Solar energy is a great way to achieve energy independence. Furthermore, solar panels help reduce your carbon footprint and save money on your energy bills.  Additionally, solar panels can save you money on your electricity bills by generating electricity that you can use instead of buying it from your utility company. They can also potentially increase the value of your property and even provide a source of income if you generate more electricity than you need and sell it back to the grid.

Typical installation timing from the design phase through to final permitting is two to four months.

Solar panels are best suited for asphalt shingles and metal roofs. When installing on shingle roofs it is important to take into consideration the age of the roof; roofs over 12 years old should probably be replaced before installing panels.

On cloudy/rainy days solar panels can still generate energy, although they will not produce as much energy as they do on bright sunny days. In bad weather, solar panels typically produce approximately 30% of their capacity.

Absolutely! Depending on where you live, you may be able to participate in a program called “net metering” which allows you to sell excess energy generated by your solar panels back to your utility company for credits towards your electricity bill.

Yes, the installation of solar panels can increase the value of your property. In general, homes with solar panels are considered more desirable and attractive to buyers because they offer a way to save money on energy bills and reduce carbon emissions. So, if you are considering installing solar panels, it could be a wise investment for both the environment and your wallet.

Net metering is an agreement with the utility in which the homeowner sends electricity produced by the solar system to the utility. The amount of electricity is monitored and used as an offset against electricity the homeowner consumes from the utility. Net metering contracts vary with each utility, some rectify monthly, others on a yearly basis.

Solar panels are most effective when installed in locations with direct sunlight. However, solar panels can still generate electricity on cloudy days or in indirect sunlight, just not as much as they would under direct sunlight.

You would immediately contact the company that installed your panels.

The warranties and guarantees vary depending on the system and can range from 15-30 years on the paneling, racking, labor, and other materials.

If you have a shingle roof that is older than 12 years then you should consider replacing the roof before installing solar panels.
